Frequent Questions
Challenger League

Q: When and where are the practices held?

A: August 1st is the first day of practice for Pop Warner football and cheerleading and flag football. All practices during August are held at the  Paul ave. field

Q: What if our family always takes a vacation in August?

A: National Pop Warner rules specify:

1. Football players must complete 10 hours of practice before participating in contact drills.

2. Football players and Spirit participants must complete 20 hours of practice before participating in inter-squad scrimmages

3. Players must practice a minimum of 4 hours in a game week or are ineligible for that week's game.

Q: Do we get equipment when practice starts?

A: Equipment will be handed out prior to the first practice but, players cannot wear pads until completing 10  hours of conditioning.

Q: My son/daughter and his/her friend only want to play if they can be on the same team!

A: Rotterdam Pop Warner attempts to make football and cheerleading available to as many children as possible while keeping in mind that age, weight, and experience must be factored into placement on a team. It may not be in the best interest of the child or of the organization to accommodate these types of requests in all instances.

Q: That coach doesn't know anything about football/cheerleading! Why are they coaching?

A: We are in constant need of coaches to volunteer their time and energy. We are all volunteers in this organization, and urge you to step forward and offer whatever you can to help these boys and girls learn the basics of football, cheerleading, and teamwork. Many times we are faced with having a team and no coach, and at times parents with no past experience have stepped forward to volunteer and take on this particularly awesome task! Please offer help instead of criticism, and maybe everyone can learn together!

Q: Why do I have to volunteer? I paid all my fees! I want to watch the practice/game!

A: Without volunteers, there would be no  Pop Warner. And we would ALL like to see our children play. If everyone can give some of their time, particularly on game days, then you should be able to see most of the ‘action' -

Q: What if it rains? Do we still have practice? How will I know?

A:  We DO practice in the rain. Because cancellations can sometimes occur at the last minute, there is often no way to implement a phone tree in time. When in doubt, come to the field. Parents: if you're away from the field and there is a storm, PLEASE RETURN!!

Q: I don't have a computer! How can I get information you say is on the website?

A: We encourage you to find someone who does have a computer (or go to the library). We have found that handouts often get left at the field, left in the car, or just plain lost, and announcements by the coach never get communicated to the parents. While we will continue with the traditional handouts etc., we will also be asking each coach to provide the league with a copy of the handouts/announcements for the team each week, and we will be posting that information on the web.

Q: I promised my daughter that she could have her ears pierced this summer and she'll need to leave the earrings in for a while. Are there any exceptions to the ‘no jewelry' rule for this instance?

A: No, there are no exceptions. This is a National Rule as well as a safety issue, and we will ask your child (and this includes the boys, too!) to remove their earrings/eyebrow rings/bellybutton rings/tongue rings etc. for all practices and games. If he/she wishes to participate, it would be best to wait until after the season ends. This rule also applies to student demonstrators!
